JUN MIYAKE

Jun Miyake is a saxophonist, flutist, and multi-instrumentalist who has been active in the international jazz and creative music scene for more than three decades. Performing on saxophone, flute, shakuhachi, and nohkan, he has collaborated with musicians across the United States, Japan, Europe, and Asia.

Born in Hyogo, Japan, Miyake studied at the A.N. Music School of Kyoto before continuing his musical education at Berklee College of Music, where he completed advanced flute studies under Matt Marvuglio. In the late 1990s, he led Groove Merchant, an ensemble that toured throughout the northeastern United States, and became an active performer on Manhattan’s Upper West Side while maintaining close musical ties with Japan.

Throughout his career, Miyake has appeared at leading festivals and concert venues internationally. He has been a longtime collaborator of drummer and educator Pheeroan akLaff, performing together at New York’s Vision Festival and on numerous tours in the United States and Japan. Their duo album, Forest Ghost, features Miyake on tenor saxophone, flute, nohkan, shakuhachi, and distortion flute.

Based in New York and Tokyo, Miyake continues to perform, record, and collaborate with musicians in Japan, the United States, and around the world.

ジュン・ミヤケは、サックス、フルートをはじめ、尺八や能管など多彩な楽器を演奏するマルチ・インストゥルメンタリストであり、30年以上にわたり国際的なジャズおよびクリエイティブ・ミュージック・シーンで活動を続けている。アメリカ、日本、ヨーロッパ、アジアを舞台に、多くの音楽家と共演を重ねてきた。

兵庫県生まれ。アン・ミュージック・スクール京都校で学んだ後、渡米し、バークリー音楽大学にてマット・マーヴグリオに師事し、フルートの高度な研鑽を積む。1990年代後半には自身のグループ「Groove Merchant」を率いてアメリカ北東部をツアーし、ニューヨーク・マンハッタンのアッパー・ウエストサイドを拠点に演奏活動を展開する一方、日本との音楽的な交流も継続してきた。

これまで国内外の主要な音楽祭やコンサートホールに出演。ドラマー、教育者としても高い評価を受けるフェローン・アクラフとは長年にわたり共演を重ね、ニューヨークのVision Festivalへの出演をはじめ、アメリカと日本で数多くのツアーを行っている。両者によるデュオ・アルバム『Forest Ghost』では、テナーサクソフォン、フルート、能管、尺八、ディストーション・フルートを演奏している。

現在はニューヨークと東京を拠点に、演奏、レコーディング、そして世界各地の音楽家とのコラボレーションを精力的に続けている。
